“I realized what was happening and that those items on the bench were not there by chance…”
On Monday, 26 March 2007 at around 5:30 pm, Robb, asked me to be his wife. Obviously, you want to know "how it happened" and it went a little something like this:
Robb and I had been planning to attend a concert last night. After I arrived in Seattle, we decided to take advantage of the beautiful, warm weather (since it had been raining since Wednesday of the prior week) and take a walk. We went to the park next to his house, which was the same park where he asked me to be his girlfriend almost two years prior.
We passed the bench where we had sat a few times and had really good discussions and watched kids playing in the park etc. After walking for about ten minutes through the nice ravines we decided we were hungry and turned back towards Robb's house (and towards the bench).
There were some kids playing Frisbee that we attempted to walk around but ended up walking through their game; and in the wrong direction to get back to Robb's house. "Robb, your house is the other way…" And then I noted the bench, "Oh there are flowers and wine on the bench... [Realization struck] OH!"
As we approached, I realized what was happening and that those items on the bench were not there by chance. Robb turned to me and said, "Jessie, I have something I've been meaning to tell you. As Christ loved the church and laid his life down for her, so I love you, and lay my life down for you. [He got down on one knee and took the ring box out and opened it up] Will you marry me?" My response: "Yes!"
We sat down and read some Bible verses and prayed. Then we had communion with bread I had given Robb from the bakery I work at and the wine we drank was a bottle we had picked out earlier in the week. Oh sly Robb.
No sooner had we finished and called his accomplice, Andrew, to come join us. And Robb’s mom called. We told her the news and proceeded to call my parents and tell them the news.
The next few hours were all a blur of eating sushi, making phone calls, and finally getting to the concert.
But what can I say? I am happy!
Robb and I are excited to join our lives together. We are moving to Madison, Wisconsin in the next 6-9 months for graduate school. Robb will be pursuing his PhD in Genetics while I study Food Science in hopes of obtaining my masters and someday writing a cookbook!
As the wedding plans begin to fall into place, you will see the changes on our little wedding-website. It will be a small affair, but hopefully we can have a celebration in the summer of ’08 to celebrate God’s goodness and all of you as our friends and family.
